Florida Magazine publishes an article saying Westgate Resorts
is the world's largest timeshare resort. Vacation Industry
Review Magazine calls Westgate Resorts an "Orlando
success story." Westgate Miami Beach opens. Features five hundred
feet of sandy beach and the largest pier in Miami Beach.
CFI publishes its first issue of I Love Orlando magazine.
Westgate Towers opens, just minutes from Walt Disney World® Resort. Harbour
Beach Resort opens within walking distance of the world famous
Daytona Beach pier. U.S. timeshare sales reach $2.72 billion. There are
5,000 resorts worldwide and global sales are estimated at close to $6
billion. Westgate Resorts/Central Florida Investments (CFI)
is one of the largest privately held corporations in Central
Florida with over $300 million in sales.
Westgate Resorts opens a 210,000-square-foot call center
in Ocoee, Florida. The call center is one of the most
technologically advanced centers of its kind.
Westgate Town Center opens, starting a 3000-unit expansion
of Westgate Vacation Villas. Westgate Smoky Mountain Resort
at Gatlinburg opens, located at the entrance to the Great
Smoky Mountains National Park. Construction begins on Westgate Park
City Resort & Spa Park
City, Utah, the company's newest resort with plans to open
for the 2002 Winter Olympics. With the addition of Westgate
Flamingo Bay at Las Vegas, Westgate now includes eight resorts, with
ownership at 180,000 and growing.
The Westgate Resorts Foundation is formed as a charitable
organization to serve the needs of the community in which
Westgate does business. In addition to raising contributions
for various causes, the Foundation also supports company

BACKGROUND
As a pioneer in the tourism industry, David has spent the
past 30 years shaping our company into the largest privately
owned company in Central Florida. David's empire includes
timeshare, real estate, construction, hotel and apartment
management, travel services, telecommunications, citrus,
insurance, transportation, retail, and much more. Success
struck David in the 1970s when he purchased a prime piece
of real estate that later developed into the largest single-site
of vacation ownership in the world- Westgate Vacation Villas.
David has been honored as the "Entrepreneur of the Year" for
construction and real estate in Central Florida and finished
second in the "Entrepreneur of the Year" national competition.
EDUCATION
David holds an honorary doctorate from Florida A&M
University for his work in community service, as well as
the National Community Service Award from ARDA, the national
timeshare association. David also studied marketing and
management at the University of Miami.
COMMUNITY SERVICE
As Chairman of the Alexis de Tocqueville Society (United
Way's highest level of contributors), David has earned
recognition as an outstanding and committed member of the
Central Florida business community. In addition to sitting
on the board of many civic organizations, David is also on the
committee for the 2012 Olympics.
